Steel Wire Mesh Racking: Safer Shelves for Pallet Racks
Steel wire mesh decking turns open pallet racking beams into safe, see-through shelves. It stops cartons and broken pallets from falling through, lets sprinkler water and light pass, and keeps warehouses cleaner. For logistics, food and trading warehouses in the UAE, it is one of the most popular racking upgrades.
What Is Steel Mesh Racking?
Steel mesh racking means pallet racking or heavy duty racking fitted with wire mesh decks. Each deck is a welded grid of steel wires with support channels underneath. The channels sit on the front and back beams, so the deck carries the load across the depth of the rack.
Benefits of Wire Mesh Decking
- Safety: prevents items and damaged pallets from dropping through the levels.
- Sprinkler friendly: the open grid lets water from ceiling sprinklers reach lower levels, which Civil Defence and insurers look at.
- Visibility: light passes through and staff can see stock from below.
- Cleanliness: dust does not collect as on solid boards.
- Flexibility: store full pallets, half pallets, cartons or sacks on the same level.
Finishes: Galvanised or Powder Coated
| Finish | Best for |
|---|---|
| Galvanised (GI) mesh | Humid, coastal or semi-open warehouses, cold stores |
| Powder-coated mesh | Indoor, air-conditioned warehouses and a matched colour look |
How to Choose the Right Mesh Deck
- Measure the beams: the deck depth must match the frame depth, and the deck must fit the beam profile (step beam or box beam).
- Check the load: each deck has a rated uniform load. Match it to the heaviest item on that level.
- Choose channel count: more support channels mean higher load and less sag.
- Consider mesh size: a smaller grid suits small cartons; a larger grid is fine for pallets.
Wire Mesh vs GI Drop Over Panels
Both make a safe shelf. Mesh is lighter, sprinkler friendly and lets light through. GI drop over panels give a solid, flat surface better suited to small loose items that could slip through a grid. Many warehouses use mesh on upper pallet levels and panels on picking levels.
Adding Mesh to Existing Racks
You do not need new racking to get mesh decking. We can measure your current racks, supply decks to fit and install them, often without emptying the whole aisle. Send a photo of your beams and the frame depth to start.
Steel Mesh Racking Price in the UAE
Price depends on deck size, wire thickness, channel count, finish and quantity. Fitting mesh to a full warehouse is usually far cheaper than the damage and lost stock it prevents. Contact us with your rack sizes for a quote.
Wire Mesh Decking and Fire Safety
Warehouse fire systems are designed so that water from ceiling sprinklers can reach the goods on every level. Solid shelves can block that water. Open wire mesh decks keep the flow path clear, which is why many insurers and fire consultants prefer mesh over solid decking in high bay racking. If your warehouse has in-rack sprinklers or a fire safety review coming up, ask us to include mesh decking in the plan.
Mesh Partitions and Anti-Collapse Mesh
Wire mesh is not only for shelves. Mesh panels can be fitted to the back of racking runs to stop goods being pushed through into the next aisle, or used to build secure cages for high-value stock. On high bay racks next to walkways, anti-collapse mesh protects people from falling items.
- Rear mesh panels along back-to-back runs and against walls.
- Mesh cages with lockable doors for valuable or controlled stock.
- Side mesh at the end of runs next to staff areas.
Common Mistakes with Mesh Decking
- Wrong depth: decks that are too short or too long do not sit correctly on the beams.
- Wrong beam profile: step beams and box beams need different deck channels.
- Point loads: a heavy item in the middle of a deck can exceed its rating even if the total weight is low.
- Missing decks: gaps between decks let small items fall; order enough decks to cover the full beam length.
Supply and Installation
Metalraking supplies and installs steel mesh racking and wire mesh decking for warehouses in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and all over the UAE, as part of new racking projects or as an upgrade to existing racks.
